WA165 Steam Train

The WA165 Steam Train is chugging its way into full bookings in December this year thanks to an ECT community investment grant.
Money from the ECT grant will help pay for operational costs during the scenic rail season.
Tourism Eastland CEO Graham Breckell said the WA165 is a major contributor in attracting cruise ships to the Port of Gisborne and the steam train already has a number of bookings just prior to Christmas.
"Two cruise ships will be at port in Gisborne in late December and already, several bookings on the steam train are scheduled with passengers of these ships."
The WA165 Steam Train relies on funding from a number of trusts and ticket sales, but the help from a local body like the ECT was welcomed.
"We were pleased with the ECT application process. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and there was a great flow of communication from the trust," said Mr Breckell. "We are looking forward to welcoming the cruise ships with the WA165 in tow."
