Sponsorships available from Eastland Community Trust

Posted on 05/12/2008

Do you have a new community initiative that contributes to the economic development of the region and requires some additional funding to help get it off the ground?

The Eastland Community Trust has sponsorships available for up to $5000 each for new community initiatives that can clearly demonstrate a contribution to assisting in economic development in the Gisborne region.

In the past the trust has given sponsorship grants to the Gisborne Autumn Arts Festival, the Olympic Sculpture Exhibition, GWALOOP, Te Rangitawaea Festival, Young Enterprise Scheme and Te Unga Mai amongst others.

Trust chairman Gary Alexander said the trust wanted to make most sponsorships available to new, innovative community initiatives.

"We see our sponsorship role as providing some initial funding and the trust's expectation is that if the initiative is ongoing it can sustain itself in future without continual trust support," he said.

"This year the trust has up to ten sponsorships available and we have a number remaining that can be allocated before March 2009.
"We will not allocate money just for the sake of it," Mr Alexander said, "The project needs to show some economic benefit."
