What’s the purpose of the ECT?
A. The ECT exists to create community wealth. It was established to preserve the value of the Trust Fund and provide for the people of Gisborne by paying and subsidising the installation, maintenance, or supply of electricity to areas of the district that have excessive charges. It also exists to support initiatives which are likely to encourage or sustain economic growth within the district.
What’s the Trust Deed?
A. The Trust Deed is the governing document of the ECT. It outlines the purpose of the Trust, and the responsibilities and powers of the Trustees. All decisions made by the Trustees must take into consideration the clauses in the Trust Deed.
What’s ECT’s relationship with Eastland Group?
A. ECT is the sole shareholder of Eastland Group. Eastland Group is also ECT’s largest investment and is the main vehicle for providing dividend and capital note interest income to ECT.
What’s ECT’s relationship with the Gisborne District Council?
A. Gisborne District Council holds the right to appoint new trustees under the Trust Deed and the mayor, or a councillor as the mayor’s nominee. It also approves the trustee’s fees, ECT’s Statement of Intent document and acts as the consultation party for trust deed changes. In the event of the Trust being wound up the Gisborne District Council is the capital beneficiary.
