Quotation

" I was born and raised here, my local whakapapa - the two major iwi groups in Tairawhiti - stretches back several hundred years, and most of my long-term friendships are with people who are also from here".

Interests / Hobbies

  • Fishing
  • Entertaining
  • Quality time with family

Richard has spent a significant period of his life as a public servant and has a detailed understanding of the “machinery of government” and the impact of policy making on provincial areas.  He also has a strong sense of community service and has eight years experience in community-led economic and employment development projects.

During the last 40 years Richard has volunteered leadership, guidance and support for a wide range of community groups, initiatives and projects, as well as chaired a number of local and national organisations. He enjoys facilitating and chairing meetings.

Richard joined as a trustee because at the time there was concern that ECT wasn’t investing as much money as it could into the community. He believed his background and experience in community investment would help the Trust.

He is particularly interested in being able to provide support for projects and initiatives that will improve the economic, social, cultural and environmental conditions of our region.

Richard believes the Trust has a number of challenges including meeting the expectations of the community, achieving charitable and tax exempt status and ensuring the Eastland Group continues to meet the Trust’s expectations.

In his spare time Richard loves fishing, entertaining, and spending quality time with his family.
